Chitral
Where Ancient Cultures Thrive
About Chitral
Chitral is a remote district in the far northwest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bordered by Afghanistan to the west and north. It is home to the unique Kalash people, one of the smallest ethnic groups in Pakistan, who maintain their distinct pre Islamic culture, festivals, and colorful traditions. The Kalash Valley (comprising Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir valleys) is one of the most culturally fascinating destinations in Pakistan. Chitral also offers the famous Shandur Pass, known as the "Roof of the World Polo Ground" where the annual polo festival between Chitral and Gilgit teams draws crowds from across the country. The town of Chitral, overlooked by the majestic Tirich Mir peak (7,708m), serves as the base for exploring this extraordinary region.
