Hunza Valley is undoubtedly the most sought after destination in Pakistan for both domestic and international travelers. Situated in the Gilgit Baltistan region, this valley is surrounded by towering peaks including Rakaposhi (7,788m), Ultar Sar, and Lady Finger Peak, creating a dramatic backdrop that leaves every visitor in awe.

The best time to visit Hunza depends on what you want to experience. Spring (April to May) is cherry blossom season when the valley transforms into a floral wonderland. Summer (June to August) offers clear skies and access to high altitude passes. Autumn (September to November) brings spectacular fall foliage. Winter transforms Hunza into a snowy paradise but road conditions can be challenging.

Getting to Hunza typically involves flying to Gilgit Airport from Islamabad (weather permitting) or driving along the Karakoram Highway (KKH). The drive from Islamabad takes approximately 15 to 18 hours but is one of the most scenic road journeys in the world, passing through Besham, Chilas, and along the Indus River.

Budget wise, a 5 to 7 day trip to Hunza can cost between PKR 35,000 to PKR 80,000 per person depending on your accommodation choices and travel style. Budget hotels start from PKR 3,000 per night while premium options like Eagle Nest or Serena can go up to PKR 25,000. Meals at local restaurants are quite affordable, ranging from PKR 500 to PKR 1,500 per meal.

Must visit attractions in Hunza include Baltit Fort (a 700 year old heritage site), Altit Fort and its beautiful garden, Eagle Nest viewpoint for sunrise views of Rakaposhi, Attabad Lake for boating, Passu Cones and the Passu Suspension Bridge, Borith Lake, and the ancient rock carvings at Ganish Village.

Hunza is famous for its dried fruits and nuts, particularly apricots, almonds, and walnuts. The local cuisine includes chapshuro (meat filled bread), dawdo (a hearty soup), and tumuro tea (a herbal tea made from sea buckthorn). Do not miss trying walnut cake at the local bakeries.

For photography enthusiasts, the best spots include Eagle Nest at sunrise, Duikar viewpoint, Passu Cones from the KKH, Attabad Lake from the tunnel road, and the view of Lady Finger Peak from Karimabad bazaar.

Travel tips: carry warm layers even in summer as evenings get cold, keep cash handy as ATMs are limited, carry a power bank as electricity can be unreliable, respect local customs and dress modestly, and book accommodations in advance during peak season.
